Borough of Punxsutawney

The Punxsutawney Civil Service Commission will accept applications for the position of police officer from those individuals meeting the general qualifications as listed below. Applications will be available at the office of the Punxsutawney Civic Center, 301 East Mahoning Street, Suite #1, Punxsutawney, PA 15767, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM until 4:00 PM. Applications may also be downloaded from the police department web-site, www.punxsutawneyboro.com. All applications must be returned or post marked to the Borough Managers office by 4:00 PM on Friday, October 12, 2013.

Minimum Requirements:

1.Must be a citizen of the United States of America as of application due date.

2.Must be a high school graduate or possess a General Education Development (GED) certificate as of application due date.

3.Must be twenty-one (21) years of age as of the application due date.

4.Must possess a valid Pennsylvania operator’s license at the time of appointment.

5.Must have successfully completed Pennsylvania ACT 120 training for municipal police officers.

6.Applicants must be of good moral character with no felony or misdemeanor convictions.

7.Ability to complete the entire selection process.

8.Any applicant with prior military service must possess an honorable discharge.

9.Must become a resident of Punxsutawney Borough at the completion of the twelve (12) month probationary period.

10.A check or money order in the amount of $35.00 to cover the testing fees must be attached to the returned application.  The check or money order should be made payable to “Punxsutawney Borough.”  This fee is non-refundable.

Examination Procedure:

Applicants meeting the minimum requirements for the position will receive written notification confirming the date, time and place of examination. Photo identification will be required before applicant is allowed to participate in an examination. Following is the examination procedure for the position of police officer: All applicants meeting the minimum qualifications will participate in a physical agility test, of which the specific requirement will be sent to each eligible applicant prior to the test date. The physical agility is graded pass/fail. Applicants who pass the physical agility test will proceed to the second phase, the written examination. Applicants who obtain a score of seventy percent (70%) or higher on the written examination will continue to the third phase, the oral examination. Applicants scoring seventy percent (70%) or higher on the oral examination will have their oral examination score applied to their written examination score and will be placed on an eligibility list in order of the final combined scores.

Benefits:

Annual starting salary of approximately $31,000 dollars, retirement plan, medical insurance and fringe benefits.
